1 Easy Way To Prompt Your Children To Pray

1 Easy Way To Prompt Your Children To Pray

Help Your Children To Have A Relationship With God

I want my children to have a relationship with God, and for this reason my husband and I have consistently prayed with our children at bedtime. We have now done this for as long as I can remember. Sometimes Coltin prays with them, sometimes it’s just me, and sometimes we all pray. There are nights that my children would rather just my husband or I pray as we tuck them in. That’s ok so long as they have been prayed with before we drift off to sleep. On other nights they’ve been asked to pray and haven’t felt like it. I find this understandable as occasionally even adults can be stumped as to where to begin. However, I want my children to have a relationship with God, and a very big part of a healthy relationship with God is our consistent communication with him.

God Placed On My Heart One Simple Prompt To Help My Children Pray…

God placed on my heart one simple prompt that I use that has faithfully resulted in them praying. I simply ask them to thank God for three things. They then quickly respond and pray grateful prayers. I love the way that this has resulted in them coming before God with gratitude and thanksgiving. I believe this prompt has helped them form a habit of beginning their prayers with praise.

The Disciples Desired To Be Instructed On How To Pray

In Luke 11:1-4 we learn that the disciples desired to be instructed on how to pray. Jesus teaches the need to begin our prayers with, “Father hallowed be your name…” The word hallowed means we are to acknowledge God, to regard and treat him as holy. I’d say one of the best ways to do this is to recognize all that we have to thank him for, however it’s important that we are not just thanking God for “things” but that we acknowledge moments, loved ones, memories, milestones and more! Even as I write this I feel the need to thank God for his qualities all the more when I pray with my children. After all he is an amazing God, and it’s so important that we at times thank God for all that he is!

I hope you find this prompt helpful as you pray with your children!
